2010 Wipe Out Kids Cancer Day at Jersey Mike's
Friday, March 26, 2010
Friday, March 12 was the culmination of a month-long endorsement/promotion of Wipe Out Kids' Cancer by Jersey Mike's Sub Shops...and what a special day it was! All 11 area Jersey Mike's locations participated, so I feel badly that I am only going to write about my experiences at 2 of the stores.
I started my day at the Richardson store on Campbell and I-75. When I arrived in the morning, all the prep work was being finalized by the staff.

Owners Julie and Peter Chaump were busy getting everyone ready. Sports talk legend Norm Hitzges was preparing for his broadcast, The Ticket was set up out front along with the Girl Scouts selling cookies.
Then, the customers started arriving...

There were 2 lines at the counter and people were backed up out the front door. Some came because they just like the food, some came because "Norm told them to" and some came to support Wipe Out Kids' Cancer.

Mike was working the door to let people know what was going on, Richardson's mayor Gary Slagel arrived and donned our special tee shirt and started refilling drinks and thanking the guests for coming.

Marcus Quillen came by - he was a 2000 WOKC Ambassador who has won his fight with Cancer. Grown and working in Flower Mound, but stopped in to say "hi" and support WOKC. He even had his Ambassador Pin with him.

After lunch, I was off to the Spring Valley/Tollway location. When I arrived, the buzz and excitement were very similar. People had been standing in line, but were happy to support the cause. Owner and regional director of Jersey Mike's, Dalton Stewart was greeting guests and he and Cindy Brinker Simmons, founder of WOKC, were visiting with the mayor of Farmers Branch.

The cast from an upcoming TV pilot, The Complex were there to lend their support as was Kevin who was filming the cast and Ambassadors and friends of WOKC. Jon-David Wells was preparing for his radio program and interviews. Ambassadors and their families were there for those interviews and to enjoy the great subs and join in the fun!
It was an awesome day of not only great fundraising, but also great awareness raising.
THANK YOU Jersey Mike's!!! WE can't wait to hear what the final total contribution will be! We're still eating at Jersey Mike's.
