In 2008, WOKC launched the “Buddy Bags” program to provide a bag full of hospital stay necessities to each child admitted to Children’s for cancer treatment. The idea is to help the families struggling to understand their child’s diagnosis and treatment by easing the transition from home to hospital.

These “Buddy Bags” contain restaurant vouchers, hospital parking vouchers, toiletries, soft blankets and other personal items for a family in crisis. And yet, they provide much more. These bags send a message to the children and their families that there are people in the Dallas community who care about them at a time when they need to know that most.
