Our Ambassadors
A group of childhood cancer patients from Children’s Medical Center are selected each year to be the WOKC Ambassadors. The WOKC Ambassadors represent the other pediatric cancer patients at Children’s Medical Center and are the heroes behind our campaign to eradicate pediatric cancer. We serve as a support group for the Ambassadors and their families. Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer volunteers spend a great deal of time encouraging the Ambassadors and their families during their cancer treatments and thereafter.
Ambassadors and their families are treated to special events and activities held in their honor throughout the year. The primary purpose of the program is to allow the children a chance to just be kids and forget about their cancer treatment for a few hours a month. Past activities have included being the honored guests of Michael Young at a Texas Rangers’ baseball game, NHL Hockey at a Dallas Stars’ game, a day of horses, BBQ and fun at Twin Mallets Ranch, a day at the Museum of Nature and Science, Fun at Speedzone … just to name a few.
These events also provide a support system for these kids and their families by connecting them with other kids and families battling the disease. Over the years, WOKC has served over 250 families through the Ambassador Program. Some Ambassador families tell us that the program not only saved their child, it saved their family.
